"America and the Church" Print E-mail

Sunday, July 4th, 2010. Speaker: Rob Shepitka

The Independence Day message shared by Rob inspired us to remember what it means to be a Christian in America. The song "Battle Hymn of the Republic" was read and then sung together at the end of the message.

"What is the importance of this day?  What does Independence Day mean today in 2010?..."
  • It is all God's plan, we always partner with Him, but are we partnering with Him in obedience, or disobedience?  He'll use us either way.

  • The Story of Redemption is seen from Genesis all the way through to Revelation.

  • How does this day, July 4th, fit into the plan of God?  And how does this nation fit into the plan of God?

  • Rabbi Dr. Gerald Meister, from the first Night to Honor Israel, said, "God does not conduct the world by whimsy.  Learn to connect the dots."

  • There is much evidence of God in America's founding:
    • we were founded as being a light unto the nations.
    • The Pilgrims came here as a church plant.
    • Pilgrim leaders and early founders studied Hebrew.
    • The Pilgrims likened themselves to escaping Pharaoh and heading to the Promised Land (America).
    • Soldiers shouted "No King but Jesus!" during the Revolutionary War.
    • The 13 colonies were likened to and governed in structure similar to the 12 tribes of Israel.
    • Harry Truman was instrumental in helping established the State of Israel and was called "Cyrus".
    • The Statue of Liberty is really Liberty Enlightening the World.

  • There's a difference between being an American, and being a Christian.

  • What part does America play in God's plan?  Perhaps sent ahead, like Joseph, to sustain Israel.

  • In the end ALL nations will turn away.
